* Charlie Cardillo, the founder of Underground, credits his time as a high school English teacher for his decidedly ironic writing style. Charlie then made a journey from the classroom to the cubicle, winning creative awards for some of San Francisco’s largest ad agencies. He enjoyed commercial advertising, but it couldn’t beat the gratification he experienced creating ads for non-profits. Now as the creative director at Underground, Charlie oversees all aspects of message development for our clients. He has a reputation for developing innovative creative strategies that are as compelling as they are effective. His creative strategies and headlines have helped to propel a number of campaigns into the media, placing issues on the political and social radar screen. He has been lead strategist and creative director on several successful advocacy campaigns, including the recent push to increase fuel mileage standards to 35 miles per gallon in the energy bill, which was signed into law in the fall of 2007.
